Holiday shopping proves successful for small businesses in West Point

Some 141 million shoppers took to shops and malls this weekend, signaling the first full rush of the holiday shopping season. And at least some of those shoppers hit the stores in West Point, as many business owners observed satisfactory results, particularly on Small Business Saturday.
Rosie Perry, assistant manager at Pass It On thrift shop in West Point, said the store did not try to compete with larger retail chains on Black Friday, opting instead to remain closed and open on Saturday. And while she said she was unclear how this year’s totals would stack up to those from 2012, she said she was pleased with the weekend.
“It was great,” Perry said. “We had a brown bag sale, where you could pick any clothing you want to put in the bag for $6 ... we had lots and lots of customers come in for that. ... We had more exposure this year in our advertising too, so we were busy. Overall it was a really good weekend.”
