Residents of the Henry Clay Retirement Center (HCRC) in West Point hosted a yard sale Friday through Tuesday. The residents had items to sell and had accepted donations from the community.
“The Henry Clay residents have enjoyed every aspect of the yard sale,” said Dee Mathis, director of resident services. “It gave them an opportunity to sell some things they had and didn’t use. They have throughly enjoyed the whole process. The ones who couldn’t move things or help set up have been the first to volunteer to help with customers. It has been a lot of fun.”
Mathis said the proceeds will go toward lunch and other outings for all the residents. The residents are all in different financial circumstances and this way everyone can enjoy an outing without someone who can’t afford it being left out, Mathis said. Extra monies in the past have helped Sally Kate Winters Family Services, Adopt-a-Family and have been used to help with other community needs, according to Mathis. The residents want to share with each other and the community, because that’s what being part of a community and being independent is all about, Mathis said.
