Hebron wins one of three at Exposure event

August 22, 2011

Hebron Christian School softball coach Cass Tapley continues to learn things about his team.

Thanks to the experience of playing at the College Exposure Tournament at the Starkville Sportsplex on Saturday, the Lady Eagles got plenty of opportunities to improve.

Hebron won one of three games played and Tapley saw some good and bad things during the course of the day.

“It went exactly like I thought,” Tapley said. “We are so young and we lost seven seniors from last year.”

After opening with a 10-0 loss to Winona Christian, which won’t count as a conference loss for the Lady Eagles, they defeated North Sunflower Academy 15-2 and finished with a 6-1 loss to Delta Academy.

“At the end of the day, everybody was a little tired,” Tapley said. “Their pitcher was walking some and our pitcher was walking some. We get the bases loaded and don’t come up with a hit, then they get the bases loaded, they come up with a hit. It was a day to get through, but it made us better. They had a good pitcher and we hit the ball a little bit.”

After holding a 1-0 lead going into the fifth, Hebron saw Delta Academy score six unanswered runs to take the victory.

The Lady Eagles were limited to one hit each from Chloe Tapley, Rebecca Falkner, Blake Griffin and Starkville resident Hannah Loper.

In the win against North Sunflower, Hebron delivered 20 hits with the biggest bat being Beverly Blake with two doubles, two singles and a triple. Falkner and Alaina Hill had two singles and a double each, Tori Nichols chipped in a double and a single, Chloe Tapley added a triple, Holley Hudson contributed three singles, Griffin had a pair of singles and Loper had a single.

Chloe Tapley had 12 strikeouts in the circle against Delta Academy to add to the 11 she recorded against North Sunflower Academy. Coach Tapley said it’s important for the defense to back up the effort of his daughter Chloe.

“We just need to catch a pop up or two,” Coach Tapley said.
The Lady Eagles have a record of 6-4.
