Hebron stops rally, tops OH 5-3

September 23, 2011

Down by a pair of runs to potentially tie the ball game, Oak Hill Academy failed to capitalize with the bases loaded and two outs Wednesday afternoon as Hebron Christian was able to hold on to a 5-3 victory.
It was the final regular season game before the postseason for the Lady Eagles who had played their second game in two days and were coming off a tough district loss the night before to Winona. The Lady Raiders, who had won four in a row coming in, had their win streak snapped before senior day on Thursday.
Needing two runs to tie the ballgame in the top of the sixth inning, Hebron’s Chloe Tapley scattered three strikeouts among a single and two walks to preserve the lead and the victory when it looked like Oak Hill was mounting a comeback after scoring three unanswered runs.
In the top of the fifth inning after a leadoff walk to Tori Ellis and fielder’s choice, Ellis moved to third after a stolen base and later scored on a wild pitch to make 5-2. A double by Maime Allen set up the next score when an RBI by No. 18? single cut the lead to a pair of runs.
Hebron who battle current Class A power Bayou Academy in the first round of the North State tournament on Saturday in Cleveland, jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Tapley gave the Lady Eagles the advantage with a RBI triple followed by an RBI single by Tori Nichols.
In the third inning, R J Faulkner found a hole and scored Alaina Hill who reached on an error for a 3-0 lead before back-to-back base hits including a triple by Nichols made it 5-0 Hebron.
Hunter Coleman’s RBI single in the fourth inning gave the Lady Raiders their first run of the ball game.
Allen took the loss for Oak Hill after giving up just four hits. She also struck out five and walked just won Hebron batter.
Her counterpart Tapley finished with 11 strikeouts despite giving up eight hits in the ball game.
