After making the first round of the playoffs, the Hebron Christian Eagles will be raising their expectations in the 2013 baseball campaign.
“Yeah, expectations are to make the playoffs,” said assistant coach Cass Tapely about the expectation for the season, “we want to make a deeper run this year.”
With a three senior looking to start, Hebron will also rely on underclassmen to fill in the other six spots in field. Yet the underclassmen will not lack experience as many of them picked up valuable experience in the past seasons.
The pitching staff for the Eagles will be a very important as they will need to get good innings in during the season. A four man rotation is what they are expecting in the high school roster and will make good outings against challenging opponents.
“Will Corben Rogers and Trey Chism are expected to lead the pitching staff,” commented Coach Tapely about the pitching rotation, “Channing Tapely will throw, Drew Myatt will also throw for the high school. Our pitching should be pretty decent.”
Hebron will fight in a strong district 3-A, a five team league. The Eagles are joined by Central Academy, Calhoun Academy, Kemper Academy, and Winona Christian School. Winona, the traditional power, will definitely be the preseason front runner. Yet it will be a definite horse race to see who will make the playoffs at the close of the district season.
Hebron Christian will start their season this upcoming Tuesday February 26 against Houlka High School in Houlka. The Eagles will begin play around 5 p.m starting with junior varsity action.
