On Monday night, the Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders swept into Pheba to play the Lady Eagles of Hebron on the softball diamond.
Oak Hill jumped out on top early, eventually claiming an 8-3 lead over Hebron.
Lady Eagle starter Beveley Blake gave up four two-out runs in the first inning, but the defense and pitching settled down after that, allowing Hebron to climb back in it.
After getting three in the bottom of the third, Oak Hill settled in and added four more runs over the next two innings to seal the win.
When the two teams departed, they thought they would not see one another again until September 20 at Oak Hill.
However, thanks to some adjustments in the schedule, the two teams will face off this afternoon at 3:30.
“This one wasn’t on the schedule, but we needed to play and they needed to play,” said Hebron head coach Cass Tapley. “We can help each other out in time for conference play next week.”
Tapley’s team was originally slated to play on the road against Winston tonight, but that game fell through.
Oak Hill was not on the schedule to play anyone, but they were scheduled to play in the MRA Tournament this weekend.
By Wednesday, Oak Hill said it was not going to participate in that tourney.
That would have left Hebron and the Lady Raiders going Monday to Monday without a game, leading up to conference matches for both of them.
“This is just getting us some work before Monday,” Tapley said. “It will help us both out to keep us fresh.”
Hebron will be going on the road on Monday to take on conference rival Kemper at 4 p.m.
Oak Hill will be hosting conference contender Carroll. This will be the second time in two weeks these teams have met, and Oak Hill played victim to the Lady Rebels in a 10-0 loss last Thursday.
This will also give Hebron a chance to turn the tables on the cross-county team which beat them on Monday at home.
