On Thursday night, the Hebron Eagles junior varsity football team traveled over two hours to take on the Delta Academy Raiders in their season finale.

The Eagles came away with a 22-20 win to improve their record to 7-1 to end the season. Hebron Christian head coach David Foster said that he wanted to treat the road trip as if it were a bowl game and reward his players for their hard work this season.

“We took van up there and we all went to Cracker Barrel and ate,” Foster said. “A lot of my young guys never had experienced that and it was fun for them.”

The Eagles started the season at 1-1 before reeling off six consecutive wins to close out the season. Hebron also avenged its only loss of the season to Columbus Christian two weeks ago.

“That game we lost, we had a 22-point lead just before halftime, but we kind of fizzled out in the second half,” said Foster. “If we had just played a complete game, we’d have the chance to be undefeated.”

A 13-yard touchdown run by Bradley Scott with 6:26 left in the first quarter would give Hebron an early 8-0 lead. Doug Loden followed that up with a 10-yard touchdown run to give the Eagles a 14-0 advantage.

The second quarter would be all Delta Academy, however, as the Raiders took a 20-14 lead into halftime. Delta Academy tied the game at 14-14 with 1:36 left in the half, but a Hebron fumble set up another Raiders touchdown with seven seconds left in the second quarter.

“We weren’t executing what we wanted to do (in the second quarter),” Foster said. “I told them ‘We can go score and beat these guys, but you’re going to have to go back to playing the way you started the game.’”

The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair where neither team scored, but in the fourth quarter Doug Loden would score on a 7-yard run to give Hebron a 22-20 lead with 6:26 left in the game. The Eagles would come away with a fourth down stop deep in their own territory to come away with the 22-20 win.

Bradley Scott led Hebron with 90 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Doug Loden scores two touchdowns and ran for 70 yards on nine attempts. Loden also finished with a game-high 17 tackles.
