Hebron Christian takes care of business against Victory 59-31

In a game that Hebron Christian’s greatest lead was 35 at one point, the Eagles looked as if they had not skipped a beat after a two week break from competitive play. The last Varsity game the Eagles played was a thrashing win over Grace Christian of Louisville on November 13.
Big news on the night was Hebron welcoming back John Allen Moore to the line-up. Moore had to sit out the first five games due to academic reasons. If Moore’s performance against Victory is an indication, he will be a great addition to an already athletic and talented Eagle ball club. Moore was able to score 15 points and help lead Hebron past Victory 59-31.
Taylor Coggins’ lay-up and a Hayden Carty’s three saw the Eagles open up an early 5-0 lead and by the middle of the quarter Hebron had gained a sizable lead 11-4. At the end of the first, Hebron looked as if they might just run away with game leading Victory 18-6. The second quarter saw the Eagles continue to keep a sizable lead though a Victory 6-3 run late in the quarter allowed Victory to cut the lead to 11 points. At halftime, Hebron looked the better team leading 29-18.
After the halftime interval, Hebron returned to the floor and put on a great scoring display. The scoring stretch lasted six minutes and saw the Eagles outscore Victory 13-2 extending their lead to 42-20. At the end of the third quarter, the Eagles led 46-22 over Victory. With such a great lead, Coach Gary Vaughn was able to give his starting five some well-deserved rest and some playing time to guys on the bench. The game was never in doubt as the Eagles were victorious over Victory 59-31.
Scoring on the night along with John Allen Moore’s 15 points were Will Corbin Rogers and Carty both with 11 points. Collin Moore contributed with 7 points along with Andrew Myatt and Coggins scoring 4 points each.
Hebron will look to carry the momentum from Tuesday night’s game into the district opener Thursday night. It will be a tall order as the Eagles play host to Winona Christian, a district powerhouse and favorite to win the district. Tip-off is set for ten minutes after the Girls’ varsity game.
