Hansel Hill "Squirrel" Simmons
Hansel Hill "Squirrel" Simmons, age 69, passed away Monday, Jan.9, 2012, at the North Mississippi Medical Center of Hamilton, Ala.
Hansel Hill Simmons was born Feb. 8, 1942, in Montpelier, to the late Ruby Hill and William Louis Simmons. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1962 until 1966. Hansel Hill "Squirrel" Simmons married Margie Nell Wallace June 6, 1980, at the Christ United Methodist Church in West Point. He was preceded in death by wife Nell Curtis Simmons, in 1977, and two brothers: Charles H. Simmons and Sammy Simmons.
He attended the Montpelier Schools. Mr. Simmons worked as an air-conditioning technician for 31 years and had
served as an instructor for six years at East Mississippi Community College. "Squirrel" was employed at the Columbus Air Force Base as Mechanical Superindentant for 17 years and had co-founded and was owner of the Everlasting Monument Company and Cemetery Services while in West Point.
Graveside funeral services are Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at 10 a.m. in Memorial Garden Cemetery in West Point, with E. Scott Allen assisted by Dr. John Kerr. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Nell Wallace Simmons of Hamilton, Ala.; three sons: Kelly Sherman Simmons (Rachel) of Birmingham, Ala., Curtis Simmons (DeAnna) of West Point, James Patrick Perkins (Lorea) of Oxford; one
daughter, Tina Marie Perkins of Hamilton, Ala.; six grandchildren: Ashley Simmons Wooten (T.C.), Jacob Simmons, Kate Perkins, Anna Claire Perkins, Justin Perkins and Ryan Perkins; two great grandchildren: Bradie Wooten and Charlie Wooten; and one brother, Jasper Simmons (Pat) of West Point.
Visitation is at the graveside from 9:45 a.m. until service time.
