Gwendolyn Stevens Chandler

Gwendolyn Stevens Chandler, born Aug. 28, 1923, in Hillsboro, Ore., passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 of natural causes. Her husband, Creighton Chandler Sr. Esq. of West Point, preceded her in death March 31, 1984.
Gwen Steven Chandler is survived by her children, Dr. Creighton Chandler Jr., of West Monroe, La.; and his wife, Kathy Stevens Barry Chandler of Monroe, La.; and by Dr. Eileen Kenny and her husband, Robert of Roanoke, Va.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive her. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and friend and she will be greatly missed. The family is thankful for her life and for her deserved rest in Heaven.
Graveside funeral services are today. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at 2 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery, West Point, with Father Lee Winter officiating. Visitation is from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Calvert Funeral Home of West Point, Mississippi is in charge of arrangements.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the many caregivers at South Roanoke Nursing Home, notably, to Mackey Johnson. A thanks is also expressed to the very dedicated hospital staff at Unit #8, West PCU Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital who gave loving assistance. Very special thanks to Dr. Cecilia Steans and Dr. Robert Keeley. Your kindnesses and compassion were invaluable during this difficult time. Also to the colleagues and staff of Dr. Eileen Kenny at the Carilion Breast Care Center for their compassion and support.
