GTR Waste Authority addresses Civitans

February 21, 2014

— Donna Summerall/Daily Times Leader Jimmy Sloan of Golden Triangle Regional Solid Waste Management Authority spoke to the Civitans about the importance of the local landfill in lowering energy costs.

The West Point Civitan Luncheon Club opened the Wednesday meeting by discussing the Junior Civitan pancake breakfast from 7 – 10 a.m., Saturday at the Bryan Public Library. The $5 a plate fundraiser’s proceeds will go in part toward the library’s Summer Reading Program, with the rest to fund Jr. Civitan community projects. President Margaret Shelton asked members to support the students from the Fifth Street Junior High and West Point High School clubs by spreading the word about the fundraiser. This is the first year for the Jr. Civitan Clubs to spearhead the event.

Kenny Dill, former mayor of West Point and past chairman of the Golden Triangle Regional Solid Waste Management Authority, was on hand to introduce Jimmy Sloan of the GTRSWMA.
