Growth Alliance seeks nominations for West Point Hall of Fame and Citizen of the Year

Each year the West Point/Clay County Community Growth Alliance recognizes individuals for their contributions to the betterment of West Point and Clay County at the Annual Banquet. This year the Growth Alliance is asking the citizens of West Point and Clay County to participate in the selection of award recipients in two categories, West Point Hall of Fame and Citizen of the Year.
Please submit written nominations for deserving individuals by January 15th. Nominations should provide information on the nominee based on the criteria for the award they are being nominated for. Individuals currently serving in an elected office are not eligible for either of the awards. The nominations will be judged based on the information provided by a committee appointed by the Growth Alliance board of directors. The recipients will be recognized at the annual banquet which will be held on January 31st.
The West Point Hall of Fame Award will recognize individuals who have made a significant contribution to West Point and Clay County over a sustained period of time through an established history of distinguished service.
To be eligible to be nominated the individual should have an established history of distinguished service; made a lasting contribution to West Point and Clay County that has brought favor and distinction to the community; exhibited leadership and provided inspiration to others and must be either a native of West Point or a resident of West Point.
To nominate an individual for the West Point Hall of Fame a short overview of the person being nominated should be provided describing the individual’s achievements and the reason for their nomination. The nomination should include the nominee’s history of service including participation on committees and workgroups and examples of the nominee promoting/ representing West Point and Clay County outside of West Point and Clay County. The nomination should also include examples of the nominee’s leadership and inspiration to others – how have they “made a difference” in some way.
The Citizen of the Year Award will recognize an individual who enhances the quality of life in West Point by preserving, promoting and carrying out positive and quantifiable traditional small-town community values and traits.
To nominate an individual for the Citizen of the Year Award a short overview of the person being nominated should be provided describing the individual’s achievements and the reason for their nomination.
To be eligible to be nominated the individual should be a resident of West Point; be 21 years of age or older; demonstrates leadership and integrity and is respected by their peers. In addition, the nomination should include information on how the individual has done at least one of the following:
Helps out neighbors and fellow West Point citizens
Demonstrates hospitality
Promotes and preserves traditional American past-times
Shows concern for preservation and works to preserve traditions and the small-town atmosphere in the community
Promotes a sense of community in their neighborhood and all of West Point
Demonstrates patriotism through promotion and preservation of the county’s symbols and dedication to the U.S. military, past and present
Serves the community through business
The board of directors for the West Point/Clay County Growth Alliance hopes you will take this opportunity to bring recognition to deserving individuals by submitting nominations to the Growth Alliance office by 5:00 pm January 15, 2013. Nominations can be mailed or dropped off at the office located at 510 East Broad Street. Our office hours are from 8 to 12 and 1 to 5 Monday through Friday.
