Growth Alliance encourages community response to C Spire

October 9, 2013

In words of folk legend Bob Dylan, “You better start swimmin’ or you’ll sink like a stone, for the times, they are a changin’,” at least that’s how West Point Growth Alliance Director Cynthia Wilson looks at it. As such, Wilson and the Growth Alliance are actively promoting C Spire’s newly announced 1-gigabit fiber to home initiative, in hopes of keeping West Point up to speed on changing technology and more competitive in the world of economic development.
Recently, C Spire unveiled plans to implement a new digital infrastructure in Mississippi via fiber optic connections, which will allow for 1 Gbps (Gigabit per second) high-speed Internet service, phone and television packages directly to the home. The company is accepting requests from communities throughout the state hoping to be among the “first launch” areas to obtain the service.
It’s a competitive market that could open the door for “endless opportunities” in the new age, Wilson said. As such, the Growth Alliance is recruiting residents of Clay County to express their interest to C Spire in hopes of being among the select few. Residents may visit and fill out a brief registration form to submit in the first phase of the selection process.
