June 13, 2011

West Point High School was in summer baseball action last Saturday as the number one team split a two game set, falling 9-0 to Hernando before topping Heritage Academy 8-4.

“We didn’t play that well in the first game, just real flat” coach Blake Hutchison said. He said offensively, although the boys were shut out, they did hit the ball hard.

Twice the Green Wave had the bases loaded but failed to make the most of situation.

“We hit a a lot of balls hard,”Hutchison said. “If we could have gotten a few to drop it might have changed the outcome of the game."

"We had to get in their ear a little bit after the first game, but they responded well in the second.”

In game two, West Point found themselves with another slow start, but were able to battle back and pick up the victory.

“I told the boys to just keep swinging, your going to hit something,” he said. “And sure enough we found a hole a few times.”

Hutchison said he was pleased the with overall pitching and defensive performance from the squad.
