Green Wave set for another rematch

The West Point Green Wave football team is used to playing rematches.
Last year during the playoffs, it was West Point and New Hope locking up for the second time in the 2009 season, and it was the Green Wave who prevailed in both the regular season meeting and the aforementioned post-season match up.
The 2010 season began with a rematch between West Point and Shannon, this time with the Green Wave playing the role of the avenger, angry for their only 2009 blemish.
Likely the 2011 season will feature a more heated rivalry game at Starkville, as West Point will likely be looking for vengeance over 2010’s only regular season loss.
For now, though, the Green Wave have a much more important rematch on their hands. They have face Oxford this Friday night in round two of the playoffs.
During West Point’s seventh game, and third district match in 2010, the Green Wave barely slipped by Oxford 22-20. Had it not been for a late West Point field goal, the Chargers might have taken the game and even the district title.
Oxford did go on to win five games in a row, including last week’s beating of Pearl in the post-season’s first round.
The Green Wave went on to finish the season with a perfect district record, and they cruised past Provine in last week’s playoff opener at home.
The last time these two teams faced each other in the playoffs was November 2007. West Point defeated the Chargers 28-13.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday night.
