Three West Point seniors will be competing in the 31st annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game in Hattiesburg on Saturday.

The game will feature Class 5A Mr. Football Marcus Murphy, along with 1st team all-state teammates Jason Brownlee and Terrance Cherry.

Cherry was selected at his natural position, defensive line, while Brownlee was selected as a defensive back and Murphy was selected as a running back.

“A lot of times they do that just to get them on the roster,” West Point head coach Chris Chambless said. “Marcus was taken as a running back, but you may see him line up at receiver and he may even take some snaps from center.”

Murphy ran for 1,856 yards and 31 touchdowns this season, while throwing for 1,058 and nine scores. His position on most college recruiting sites is listed as ‘athlete’ due to Murphy’s ability to play multiple positions.

Brownlee played both wide receiver and defensive back this season, finishing with 967 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.

Defensively, he made 17 tackles and recorded four interceptions, returning one for a touchdown.

Cherry finished the season with 48 tackles, nine for loss, and 11 sacks. Cherry also recorded a blocked punt this season.

The Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game will take place at the University of Southern Mississippi’s M.M. Roberts Stadium at noon on Saturday, Dec. 16. The players will spend the week in Hattiesburg practicing for the game and there will be a banquet at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15 at USM’s Thad Cochran Center.

The Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game will be televised on the Raycom Network.

Another Green Wave player will be participating in an all-star game as running back Chris Calvert was selected to play in the Bernard Blackwell North-South All-Star game tomorrow in Gulfport.

Calvert ran for 1,445 yards and 25 touchdowns, while hauling in six passes for 98 yards.

The North-South All-Star game will kick-off from Gulfport High School’s Milner Stadium at 11:30 a.m. and admission is $10. The All-Star banquet will be held tonight at 6 p.m. in the Lyman Community Center in Gulfport
