Another Friday night is upon the West Point Green Wave (5-1; 2-0) football team, as they continue their quest to defend their 5A state title against Oxford High School.
The Chargers come into tonight’s game with a 4-2 record overall.
They are coming off a good week, after defeating Clarksdale 37-13 at home.
The Green Wave will be looking to secure their fourth win in a row. They won the first two non-league contests of the season, before dropping their third game, at home, to Starkville in week four.
They returned home the next week to defeat Noxubee County. After that, they hit the road to take care of Indianola, and last week they returned home again for a home win against rival New Hope.
In last week’s 24-14 win, the Green Wave jumped out to a 9-7 lead at the half. West Point started taking care of business in the third quarter, scoring 15 points off of New Hope.
A lone touch down for the visiting team in the fourth would not be enough to overcome the deficit.
This week, the Green Wave are hoping to take care of business against a conference rival, who is fighting for a playoff spot.
In last year’s battle between these two teams, Oxford gave the Green Wave one of their toughest battles of the second half, but it was West Point that prevailed 33-30. This week’s battle should be another tough division battle. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
