The West Point Green Wave (8-1; 5-0) football team is going to have to finish out the regular season on the road. Before going to Hernando for the final week’s game, the Wave will be in the heart of the Delta, playing Clarksdale (4-5; 2-3) this Friday night.
The Green Wave are undefeated in district play going into this week’s game. They will be trying to lock down a district title in the next couple of weeks.
Clarksdale has lost three of its last four games, all district games. West Point is currently riding a six-game winning streak, after falling to Starkville in the team’s third game.
Though they have won all of their district games so far, the Green Wave got a fight from Oxford, which barely fell 22-20. That was followed up by a hard-fought road win, a 28-27 victory over Lake Cormorant.
Last Friday night’s 49-0 win over Saltillo seems like a relief from the one and two-point games, but the Green Wave will be going right back out there against a much improved Wildcats team on Friday. Last year, Clarksdale finished the season 4-7 overall.
Green Wave head coach Chris Chambless has said since district play began that each team on the schedule is better than they were last year.
West Point will likely be facing a tougher battle than 2009’s 27-0 victory over the Wildcats.
Clarksdale’s two district wins in 2010 have come against Saltillo and Gentry.
Last week’s 49-0 win over the Tigers and their 34-8 district opening win over Indianola are the Green Wave’s two largest victories in conference play this season.
Kickoff for Friday’s game will be at 7 p.m.
