RIDGELAND - The West Point girls and boys basketball teams closed out the first half of the 2011-12 season Tuesday with a pair of losses to Ridgeland.
Wilma Davis and Adrianna Billups finished in double figures, but after another slow start, the girls would eventually fall in another heartbreaker 45-42.
Down 13-3 after the first quarter, West Point responded with a 12-point second half effort and trailed at the half, 19-15.
Davis led the girls with 14-points and Billups finished with 10. Taylor McCrary rounded out the top scorers with nine.
The Green Wave dropped their second consecutive ball game, losing 50-33 to the Titans.
West Point had a slim 6-3 lead after the opening quarter, and by halftime were leading 18-17. In the second half, Ridgeland took control of the game, outscoring the visitors 33-15 including 20-points in the fourth quarter alone.
Daryl Thomas led the team with nine points followed by Keon McKinney and Cortez Malone with six apiece.
