Gertrude Hurst Norris
Gertrude Hurst Norris, age 87, passed away, Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at the Dugan Memorial Home in West Point. Gertrude Hurst Norris was born June 4, 1924, in Clay County, to the late Laura Stringfellow and George Barnett Hurst. Mrs. Norris was a homemaker and a member of West End Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, West Point Martha Chaper #53. Gertrude Hurst Norris married
Thomas Avery Norris Sr., April 12, 1942, in Mantee. He preceded her in death Nov.21, 2002.
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel, with the Minister John Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters: Barbara N. Bryan (Tommy) of West Point, Melba N. Hollingsworth (Randy) of Caledonia; two sons: Samuel T. Norris (Brenda) of Tupelo, Tommy Norris, Jr. (Ann Williams) of West Point; six grandchildren; ten great- grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Hurst Weems of West Point; and her beloved dog "Tiger". Also preceding her in death were one sister Lucille Norris and six brothers: Cleveland Hurst, Jimmy Hurst, Wade Hurst, Pete Hurst, George Hurst, and Hamp Hurst.
Pallbearers were her four grandsons Philp Booth, Jacob Hollingsworth, Dr. Samuel Norris, Jr., Jonathan Hollingworth, Tony Wiley, and Don Hubner.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. T. N. Braddock, Dr. John Cox, Dr. Gerry Jeffcoat, Mike Squires,, the Staff of NMMC-
West Point and the Staff of Dugan Memorial Home.
