Gardner dissmissed from Miss. State basketball team

August 26, 2011

Mississippi State head basketball coach Rick Stansbury has dismissed freshman D.J. Gardner permanently from the squad.

A release by the school states Gardner was kicked off because of "repeated actions deemed detrimental to the team."

6-foot-7 guard from Okolona was set to red shirt this season and apparently did not like that decision and posted his opinions about it on his Twitter account which has since been deleted.

Last season, Stanburry had banned his players from using Twitter after Raven Johnson used it to question his role with the Bulldogs. The ban was lifted, but the head coach did not say if it will return.

Gardner is the fourth player to leave the program within the last nine months, joining Twany Beckham, John Reik and Elgin Baily.
