This Friday night is going to be a big night for our area football teams. West Point will be trying to bring home another district title, Oak Hill will be vying for a playoff spot, and though Hebron has been knocked out of the post-season run, they will be hosting Winona for a district game on the Eagles’ senior night.
The Green Wave (8-1; 5-0) are coming off a big 49-0 win over Saltillo, and they are still undefeated in district play. The Tigers were West Point’s latest victims during the Green Wave senior night on Friday.
Right now, New Hope stands at 4-1, with the second best record in 5A Region I.
New Hope will be taking on Hernando on Friday, while the Green Wave will be on the road at Clarksdale. West Point will finish the regular season at Hernando a week from Friday.
The Oak Hill Raiders (3-7; 1-1) are still very much alive in the playoff hunt. It will not be easy, but getting in is very doable. They will be taking on a 5-4 Winston team, which is also 2-0 in the district.
A win puts Oak Hill in the playoffs. The Raiders are coming off a 35-7 non-district loss to Marshall Academy during the team’s final home game of the season on Friday night.
Hebron will be finishing the 2010 regular season at home this Friday. Though there are no playoff implications for the Eagles, they will be saying goodbye to the team’s seniors in a pre-game ceremony.
The Eagles looking to get a district win over Winona, the conference winners in 2010.
The Eagles are coming off their second win of the season, a 38-30 homecoming win over Calhoun Academy.
So far, the weather is predicted to be a cool 70 degrees at game time, in mostly sunny conditions.
Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. for all three games.
