Florence Davis Jernigan

Florence Davis Jernigan, age 96, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at the Dugan Nursing Home in West Point.
She was born Sept. 18, 1914, in Counce, Tenn., to Winfred and Nora Blakney Davis. She married Wayne Jernigan of Okolona, in 1936. An accomplished homemaker, seamstress and cook, she had a true servants heart and used these talents to minister to others. Mrs. Jernigan was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Okolona where she served as a leader in the Women’s Missionary Union and Girls’ Auxillary, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Holland Funeral Directors-Okolona Chapel with Dr. Roy McHenry officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Holland Funeral Directors-Okolona Chapel are in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice Harrelson and her husband Ken, of West Point; her son, Jerry and his wife Frances, of Plantersville; five grandchildren: Bradley Harrelson (Kasey) of Box Elder, S.D., Ben Harrelson (Sarah) of Starkville, Betsy Jernigan Wilburn (Chris) of Signal Mountain, Tenn., Jud Jernigan(Beth) of Tupelo and Bubba Jernigan (Randee) of Eupora. She also leaves twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters: Virginia Simpson and Oma Landwerlin, and her brother Lawrence Davis.
Pallbearers are Bradley Harrelson, Ben Harrelson, Jud Jernigan, Bubba Jernigan, Chris Wilburn and Jonathan Carter.
Visitation is from noon until service time today at the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 201 West Main Street, Okolona, MS, 38860.
