SCOOBA — The East Mississippi Community College Mighty Lion band is preparing to kick off the 2014-15 season, and it's starting with two summer band camps.
According to an EMCC press release, area students who wish to participate in the band must be prepared to attend one of two camps, a residential camp held Aug. 1-5 and a day camp held Aug. 12-15 at the Scooba campus.
Auditions for the EMCC band remain open through Aug. 1.
Students must be enrolled and registered for the band prior to the start of the first camp, and camps are mandatory for band students.
"For the first camp, students are required to bring their own clothes, bedding, hygiene supplies, medicine, towels, sunscreen, hat and water bottle," the release said. "Also, students must bring 10 jar lids (just the lids) for use as marching markers."
In addition to meals, EMCC will provide shuttles from the Golden Triangle campus for both camps — one at the open and close of the first camp and one daily for the second camp — according to the release. EMCC began accepting band members from the Golden Triangle campus last year, providing a shuttle to events and practice.
