PHEBA — The wait has been an excruciatingly long one for the fans of Hebron Christian football.
The last time the Eagles made an appearance in the postseason, the MAIS was known as the MPSA and the majority of the roster was not even in junior high and playing pee-wee football for the school.
Hebron’s Assistant Coach Hearne Foster, then a player at Hebron, and Head Coach David Foster, then an Assistant Coach under Greg Watkins, were on the 2008 ball club that made the Class-A 11-man playoffs. The Eagles won the first-round game over Briarfield Academy in Pheba but fell during the second-round against DeSoto Academy, the eventual state champion, on the road.
“I just want them to have fun,” Hearne said about the advice he would give Hebron’s players. “It’ll be a hostile environment. Everybody will hyped up for the game, but they will need to treat it like another football game.”
After being eliminated by DeSoto in the second-round of the 2008 playoffs, the five-year wait began. After missing out on the 2009 and 2010 seasons as an 11-man team, the Eagles made the transition to the eight-man division due to low numbers on the roster and attendance at Hebron.
