Eagles to play jamboree tonight

August 12, 2010

Note: Yesterday’s edition of the Daily Times Leader put Hebron playing its jamboree on Friday. It will be played this evening at Strider in Charleston at 5 p.m. We apologize for the error.
The Hebron Christian Eagles will be making their journey to Strider Academy tonight.
The jamboree will include four teams, and the Eagles will get to go one-on-one with two of them.
There will be a 5 p.m. match with Strider, followed by a 7 p.m. game against Bayou Academy.
“We finally get to bang on somebody else instead of each other,” said Hebron head coach Greg Watkins on Wednesday.
Watkins says that this will give he and his coaching staff a good opportunity to see where the team stands before opening week.
“We’re going to go over some defense and offense and see where we’re at,” Watkins said.
Watkins also said that it will be good for his team, with a little over a week until the first game on the road at Newton County.
“Hopefully they can get rid of the first game jitters at the jamboree,” he said. “We’ll be able to get some game film and show them what they did.”
Hebron will not have to face either of their pre-season opponents in the regular season, but Watkins says that it will be beneficial because of the status of the two teams.
The Eagles will be matching up with the Rams, out of Charleston, at 5 p.m. to kick things off.
“Strider has had a reputation of having a powerhouse for years,” he said. “It looks like they have had some really decent teams in the last couple of years.”
The Colts, who come from Cleveland, will be the final opponent.
“Bayou had a stretch where they played for the state championship two years in a row a couple of years back,” Watkins said.
Watkins’ team will open up on the road, but they will be at home the following week to play DeSoto.
