The West Point Green Wave allowed 33 unanswered points after the first quarter and could not spark a comeback in the final quarter of action, falling in the opening round of the MHSAA Class-5A playoffs to the Pearl Pirates, 33-20, Friday at Ray Rogers Stadium in Pearl.
Pearl (11-2; 6-1 District 2-5A) secured a spot in the second-round of the Class-5A playoffs and will face the undefeated Oxford Chargers Friday in Oxford.
West Point finished its season with an overall 7-5 record and exited the playoffs in the first-round for the first time since 2008.
The Wave offense was led by Mississippi State verbal-commit Aeris Williams as much of the offensive output was stymied by the Pirate defense.
Williams rushed 32 times for 153 yards on the ground. The senior running back accounted for all three touchdowns for West Point, with two rushing and one receiving touchdown on a 24-yard Josh Ewing pass.
