On Senior night, Aeris Williams broke the 2,000-yard rushing mark for the season and West Point jumped out to 34-point lead by halftime to win its final regular season game against District 1-5A foe Lewisburg, 62-34, Thursday night at Hamblin Stadium in West Point.
Williams rushed for 100 yards on and caged three passes for 121 receiving yards, scoring three total touchdowns during the Green Waveâ€™s fifth consecutive win since falling to the Clarksdale Wildcats (39-34) on Oct. 4 in West Point.
West Pointâ€™s offensive unit is averaging 55 points a game during the five-game winning span but has not found a balanced attack. Against Lewisburg, West Pointâ€™s offense found balance with 239 yards through the air and 231 yards on the ground.
The Wave opened the scoring with 28 unanswered points as Dason Thomas scored a five-yard touchdown run, Josh Ewing carried an eight-yard touchdown, Roger Thomas pounded through the line on a two-yard rush and Williams carried in a five-yard touchdown. Placekicker junior Omar Lemus kicked his first four of eight extra-point field goals.
