Various departments and groups in the West Point and Clay County community will play in a softball tournament this weekend to raise money for charity.

West Point Police Department Assistant Chief Albert Lee said there will be tailgating beginning at 5 p.m. tonight and the tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the SportsPlex located at Mac Cox Road.

Lee said members of WPPD, West Point Fire Department, Clay County Sheriff’s Department, North Mississippi Medical Center and the District Attorney’s office will play in the tournament.

Lee said there was a $50 entry fee for each team, and donations would be accepted. The winning team will then donate the money raised at the tournament to a charity of their choice.

“In the past we donated to a family or cause we felt could use the money,” Lee said. “This year if we win we will donate to the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.”
Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott said the CCSD also plan to donate to Hurricane Harvey Victims if their team won.
