Clay County man charged with attempted murder

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the West Point Police Department, arrest 39-year-old George Mario Gill and charged him with attempted murder, felony fleeing  from law enforcement officers and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

A Clay County man is behind bars and charged with attempted murder after a Tuesday morning incident.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the West Point Police Department, arrested 39-year-old George Mario Gill and charged him with attempted murder, felony fleeing from law enforcement officers and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott told the Daily Times Leader the incident occurred at the intersection of Cul De Sac Street and Stonewall Street.

Scott said the injuries sustained by the victim were not life-threatening.

Gill is currently in the Clay County Detention Center. Bond has not been set and Gill has yet to be arraigned in Clay County Justice Court.

Scott said the details of the incident are still under investigation.
