Clay County gears up for Relay for Life

February 4, 2013

Mark your calendars for Friday, May 10, 2013, at 6 p.m. This is the night for Clay County’s Relay for Life. Teams are needed for the yearly fundraiser to help battle cancer. Your team can raise funds any way they like, there are salad lunches, bake sales, hamburger cookouts, jails with the “bond” going to Relay for Life or any fun idea that raises money and awareness.
The relay at Mossy Oak, May 10, will feature music, food and fellowship. Teams will set up campsites and raise money any way they wish. For the next three months, teams will get sponsors to pledge a set amount for the actual relay. The 8 to 12 member teams will continue with the relay, walking into the next morning. Luninaires are sold that can be in honor of someone or in memory of a friend or family member who lost their battle with cancer. The event honors the survivors and remembers those who didn’t win their fight.
There are many ways businesses and individuals can be sponsors;
â—Ź Luminaria Sponsor - $250 donation. You receive a sponsor sign for your yard or business, your logo on luminaria bags and recognition at the Luminaria Ceremony.
â—Ź Survivor of the Hour Sponsor - $500 donation. You receive a sponsor sign for your yard or business, your name is listed on survivor t-shirts, you may display a banner/sign at the event and you will be acknowledged at the event.
â—Ź Silver Level Sponsor - $750 donation. You receive a sponsor sign, logo on participants t-shirts, your name or business on promotional material, you may display a banner/sign at the event and you will be acknowledged at the event.
â—Ź Gold Level Sponsor - $1000 donation. You receive a sponsor sign, logo on survivor t-shirts, logo on participants t-shirts, your name or business on promotional material, you may display a banner/sign at the event and you will be acknowledged at the event.
There are many ways to help in the fight against cancer. Walk or run at the event with your team and raise money at your campsite. Put together a team with your associates at work, a Sunday School class, the people you work out with at therapy or at the gym, have a neighborhood team from your street or maybe the people you drink coffee with in the morning. Or make an individual donation.
Cancer is something that effects everyone. We all need to join in the fight to eradicate this terrible disease. For more information on helping or organizing a team for Clay County Relay for Life contact Debbie Hinshaw 662-312-9836 or email dhinshaw70@gmail.com.
