Civitans present annual budget

October 17, 2013

By Donna Summerall

The West Point Civitan Luncheon Club got down to business at Wednesday’s meeting. President Margaret Shelton wasted no time assigning members upcoming projects to head.
“The board met earlier today and voted in a projected budget for the year,” said Shelton. “We will present the budget for final approval to the club today. I have already asked Dorothy Landon to head up the committee for our Christmas party Dec. 18 at Bryan Public Library. She will contact the caterer and work up a menu. She’ll present it to the club at our next meeting so we’ll know how much we’ll be charged per plate and if anything needs to be changed or added.”
Treasurer Peggy Goode then spoke about some new projects in the works for the coming year. She said the club was suspending its scholarship program in favor of sponsoring students wishing to enter the East Mississippi Community College Workforce Training Program. Goode said it was a way to help more than one student at a time and provide training for those who are wanting to be ready for the high tech jobs coming with Yokohama Tire. She said she believed they would be able sponsor from 5 to 10 students and it’s a great way to give back to the community by helping with job training.
