City still in need of soccer coaches

September 14, 2010

Tonight, the West Point Parks and Recreation Department will be holding its coaches meeting for the upcoming soccer season.
The Parks Director, James Crowley, is calling on anyone who is interested in volunteering to be coach this Fall to attend tonight’s meeting.
Last week, Parks Assistant Director Jarod McDaniel put the call out to the community.
“We definitely need soccer coaches,” McDaniel said. Anyone who has a kid playing is encouraged to come out and coach. Even if you don’t have a kid playing, and you just want to come out and help the kids, join us.”
Since then, Crowley says that there has been a high number of kids who have been signed up to play the sport, leaving the department short on coaches.
McDaniel says that anyone who is timid about coaching the sport, but is still interested should still show up tonight.
The assistant director said last week that he is willing to go through a coaches clinic with anyone who wants to coach, but does not know all of the details about the sport.
McDaniel says that coaching soccer is very easy to catch on to, and he also said that coaching drills are on www.youtube.com.
Tonight’s meeting will be at the Parks’ main office and will start at 6 p.m.
