City crews go above and beyond to make Christmas special

A couple of weeks ago, commuters in downtown West Point drove down Main Street and Commerce Street to the pleasant surprise of Christmas lights and decorations.
Crews for the West Point Water and Light and the entire city electric department worked tireless hours and in a quick manner to get the decorations up for city residents.
A few days later, the crews were taking children of the community up in the city’s bucket trucks to allow them to place ornaments on the community’s Christmas tree at Sally Kate Winters Park.
“It’s always a huge effort,” said Water and Light Superintendent Dwight Prisock. “It’s always a lot of work putting them up every November and December, and it’s always a lot of work in January taking it down.”
Crews worked for days to get the lights ready on the Christmas tree and to make sure that the downtown looks as nice as possible for residents and visitors to the downtown area.
Crew members worked like they would in the event of a power outage, going from pole to pole hooking up the lights.
The children from area schools and daycares got a special treat when the workers took them into the air on Thursday.
“They have fun,” Prisock said of his workers, who never once went without smiling when the kids were around. “At the end of the day, they are always very tired, but they enjoy it.”
