Charles B. "Charlie" Cliett
Charles B. "Charlie" Cliett Sr., age 86, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point.
Charles B. "Charlie" Cliett Sr. was born July 10, 1924, in Montpelier, Miss., to the late Sally Lou Saul Cliett and James T. Cliett. He was Department Head and Professor of the Aerospace Engineering Department of Mississippi State University from 1960-1991 where he had worked since 1947. He received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a Veteran of United States Navy serving as a Lieutenant Junior Grade during WW II. Charles B. Cliett Sr. married Grace Campbell Cliett on Dec. 25, 1946, in West Point, Miss. He received an Honorary Doctorate degree from Mississippi State University in 2003. "In the resolution awarding his honorary doctorate degree, the Mississippi Board of Trustees, stated that "Mr. Cliett's determination, hard work, insight, and ability to bring out the best in his colleagues and students have brought immense recognition to the engineering research and teaching programs of Mississippi State Universityâ€ť
Funeral services are Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at 11 a.m. from First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Shannon officiating; also speaking will be Bob Wyman, and Billie J. Ball. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include, wife Grace Campbell Cliett of West Point; one son, Charles B. Cliett, Jr. of Little Rock, Ark.; one sister,
Sarah Ann Fletcher of Indianola. Charles B. "Charlie" Cliett, Sr. was also preceded him in death by his daughter, Susan Marie Cliett in 2008. And his brother, Russell Cliett,
Pallbearers are Bob Wyman, John Wyman, Carlisle Campbell, George Hinnant, Edward Hinnant, Bob Marshall, Art Shirley, and Wade Roberts.
Honorary pallbearers are Billie J. Ball, John Owen, Leslie Hester, and Dr. Mike Mabry, his colleagues at Mississippi State University College of Engineering, and his caregivers, Katie Lenoir, Willene Jefferson, Donna Reese, Evangeline Cox, and Helen Doss.
