A traffic stop conducted by the Clay County Sheriff’s Department Thursday yielded three West Point residents — Tevin Nance, 22, Anthony Bean, 23, and Brian Bowens, 22 — in possession of one pound of marijuana and liquid codeine.
Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott declined to comment on the reason for the traffic stop, citing an ongoing CCSD investigation.
“We have different investigations going on, and we’ve been receiving tips ... “ Scott said.
Upon committing to the traffic stop on Forest Street, CCSD officers, according to Scott, smelled the scent of marijuana as they drew closer to the vehicle. After smelling the marijuana, Scott said officers proceeded to conduct a vehicle search.
While searching the vehicle, officers, Scott said, discovered one pound of marijuana as well as liquid codeine that had been poured into Sprite bottles.
“It was about a pound, so that’s about all that bag was going to hold,” Scott said. “They had just recently probably picked it up.”
