STARKVILLE — Senior point guard A.J. Jones led West Point with a team-high 22 points, including a 14 of 17 shooting performance from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, and the Wave (3-1) defeated the Aberdeen Bulldogs (1-2), 66-62, in a MHSAA non-district basketball contest Saturday at the Starkville High School Thanksgiving Classic.
“It was a pretty tough game,” Jones said. “They were fouling and playing real aggressive so we had to step up to the line and make our free throws to win the game.”
Senior Demarius Calvert scored 18 points, and senior guard Juan Davis rounded out the Wave scorers in double figures with 12 points.
Marcus Carouthers notched a game-high 26 points against West Point, but his individual effort was not enough to secure the Bulldogs their second win of a young season.
