An 11-year-old boy has died following a tragic playground accident in Clay County.
According to a statement issued by West Point Police Department, Sonny Quinones, 11, of Clay County was visiting his grandfather last Friday on Bruce Drive in West Point when he was discovered hanging from a tree, unconscious in the backyard. Preliminary investigation indicates the boy had been playing on a rope, tree swing.
Emergency medical personnel and WPPD officers were dispatched to the scene, where Quinones' grandfather and a neighbor were administering aid. The boy was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point and then airlifted to University Medical Center in Jackson, per the release. He remained in critical condition until Thursday afternoon, when he died from injuries suffered in the incident.
WPPD Chief Tim Brinkley said no foul play was suspected.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete as of Friday.
