The next step in the process of completing Yokohama Boulevard begins this week, as Eutaw Construction will commence paving the eastern part of the road Thursday.
The road, which stretches four miles from Highway 45 North to Barton Ferry Road, was one of things Yokohama Tire required from West Point and Clay County before it agreed to build a location here.
Calvert-Spradling Engineers President Robert Calvert said the groundwork for the road began in February, and construction crews began preparing the road for pavement about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
“They’re moving some equipment right now and tying everything off to get ready to pave,” Calvert said. “We expect to begin the actual paving on Thursday.”
He said the $19 million Yokohama Boulevard project is on time and on budget. The boulevard will be complete by the Dec. 31 deadline, according to Calvert, although he said there have been some minor setbacks.
