Tibetan women protest

More than 500 Tibetan women are arrested at the start of a protest rally in Kathmandu School children were among a group of 562 detained by Nepali police at an anti-China rally in Kathmandu. Officials say it was the first all-women protest against Chinese rule in their homeland. Some shouted "We want free Tibet" while others wept as they were dragged along the road to police vans.

Myanmar faces mass deaths

Oxfam and World Vision warn that more than 1.5 million people in Myanmar are at risk of death if aid efforts cannot reach cyclone victims Oxfam requested permission from Myanmar's junta for maximum relief efforts to take place inside the country in order to quickly mobilise aid workers and supplies directly to cyclone victims.
