The nominees for the 2011 Conerly Trophy were announced today by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. Below are the nominees from each of the 4-yard college football programs in the state.
Alcorn State : Terrence Lewis, Jr. WR- Fort Meyers, FL Starting punt returner and wide receiver who garnered 23 catches, 388 yards, and 5 touchdowns this season, thus far.
Belhaven: Justin Gaines, Jr., Running back - Montrose, MS, - leads the team with 923 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Delta State: Micah Davis, Sr. Quarterback - Wesson, MS tops the GSC charts in passing yardage (2,575), completions (210), attempts (337), TDs (17) and TDs responsible for (25) and ranks 8th in total offense in
NCAA DII.
Jackson State: Casey Therriault, Sr., Quarterback Wyoming, Michigan - ranked 3rd in total offense (329.11 yds) in FCS and 4th in passing (315.67) .
Millsaps: Jason O’Rear, Jr. , Wide Receiver, Mandeville, LA, Named Second-Team All-SCAC and Academic All-SCAC... led the SCAC with an average 17.1 yards per catch.
Miss. College: arrad Craine, Defensive Back, Sr., Brandon, MS Jarrad leads all of Division III football with 21 passes defended and paces the Choctaws with four interceptions, including returning one for a touchdown.
Miss. State: Johnthan Banks, Jr., Defensive Back – Maben, MS - Made the switch from safety to corner following an outstanding true freshman campaign . . . Provided a highlight of the 2009 season with 100 interception return for touchdown against Florida.
Miss. Valley: Paul Cox, Sr. Wide Receiver P Patterson, LA, currently leads the Delta Devils with 334 catches for 604 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Ole Miss: Charles Sawyer, Soph., Defensive Back- Miami, FL - Tied 12th in nation and 5th in the SEC with 4 interceptions this season.
Southern Miss.: Austin Davis, Sr., Quarterback, Meridian, MS - Has led Southern MS to an 8–1 record and has broken every passing record in USM history – Named Top Ten national finalist for Lowe’s Senior Class Award.
