Lady Raiders find way past Starkville Academy

November 26, 2014

The Oak Hill Lady Raiders have relied heavily on the offensive dominance that junior Sarah Dill has possessed in the opening games of the season. But one question had not been answered: What other player or players on the roster could carry the load if Dill, who is averaging close to 20 points per game, had an off night?
The Lady Raiders may have found their answer against a well-coached Starkville Academy team.

Oak Hill downs Vols

November 26, 2014

Brian Middleton has said that failure is the greatest teacher.
Middleton, the head coach at Oak Hill Academy, and his Raiders must have learned a great deal from their 58-46 loss to the Starkville Academy Volunteers on Nov. 13 in Starkville.
Oak Hill (5-3), who never trailed in four quarters, claimed redemption against Starkville with a 58-49 win Monday at OHA in West Point. Since the loss to the Volunteers two weeks ago, the Raiders have won three of their last four games, including Monday’s victory.

Hebron teams bring home wins

November 20, 2014

CALHOUN CITY — Hebron Christian is not going to need to take any games for granted this season.
That mentality is what the Lady Eagles’ Head Coach Bruce Franks wants from his girls, who are defending District 3-A champions.
“I want them to treat every game like it is important,” Franks said. “They cannot take any games for granted. They made a great run in the playoffs last season, and if they want to get back there to the state tournament and overall tournament, they’ll have to play well every night.”

Green Wave host Oxford in second round

Gluckstadt -- Going for a first-down on fourth-down can be a risky decision. That kind of decision making paid large dividends for the West Point Green Wave in its Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) opening round game.

Road to Starkville begins

November 14, 2014

The West Point Green Wave is well-known for its football prowess and multiple successes, including seven state titles – the most recent coming in 2010. The Germantown Mavericks, for many, are just finding their niche in the Mississippi high school football landscape after forming as a consolidated high school in August 2011 in Madison County.
In the opening round of the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class-5A playoffs, an old power squares off against a new power.

Hebron girls win first over Starkville Christian

November 12, 2014

STARKVILLE — Hebron Christian’s offensive formula was simple … get the ball to the front court. That’s where lengthy junior Victoria Ferguson and sophomore Holly Hudson dominated all night.
Ferguson led the Lady Eagles with 16 points, Hudson scored 13 and Hebron (1-1) grabbed a 55-37 win over Starkville Christian Monday at Starkville Christian School.

Eagles down Starkville Christian

November 12, 2014

STARKVILLE — The Hebron Christian Eagles traded the oblong football for the round basketball three days after being ousted from the Mississippi Association of Independent School (MAIS) 8-man football quarterfinals.
Though bumpy at times, the Eagles proved the better team on the court Monday night.
Landon Hill scored 17 points, Clay Faulkner contributed 16 and Hebron won its regular season opener 67-46 over the Starkville Christian Cougars (3-2) at Starkville Christian School.
