A beat-up Oak Hill still finding success on the court

The Raiders, over the holiday break, participated in the Immanuel Christmas Tournament. Oak Hill split their two games at the tournament with one loss to Columbus High School on Thursday and a tight victory over single-A Winona Christian 64-60 on Friday.

Stan Hughey’s squad managed to get a few easy practices against East Webster and Winona Christian in Immanuel’s Christmas tournament in Columbus. Winning both games by a convincing margin, Oak Hill comes out of the first half of the season with a 16-3 record.

Oak Hill splits at Immanuel tourney

The Oak Hill Raiders made a brief return to the hardwood on Thursday and Friday to participate in Immanuel’s Christmas tournament in Columbus to stay in game shape for critical games coming up in early January. The Raiders faced off early Thursday afternoon against Columbus High and lost 64-42 before rebounding against Winona the following night in a 60-56 barn burner.

West Point dominates Lady Rams 52-29

Though scheduled to face Winston Academy, the Lady Wave opened up the Immanuel Christmas tournament against the host Lady Rams of Immanuel Christian School in the early morning game that tipped off at 9:45 a.m. Thursday.
West Point opened the first quarter with great controlled defense and outstanding half-court offense, allowing for the Lady Wave to open up an early 7 point lead. The Lady Wave never looked back after the first quarter, and absolutely dominated Immanuel with their largest lead at 24 points during the fourth quarter. West Point cruised to an easy victory 52-29.

As Christmas has passed and the Holiday season is still in full swing, many high schools are hosting tournaments during the coming week. Three West Point teams will make the trip over to Columbus to play in the Immanuel Christmas Tournament hosted by Immanuel Christian School.
The Immanuel Christmas Tournament boasts strong teams from the MAIS and MHSAA and should be a very entertaining and challenging event for all West Point three teams participating.

OHA beats Colonels at home

How sweet revenge can be. 10 days after a tough road loss at Indianola, the Raiders got their chance to take it to the Colonels, and boy, did they take advantage. Oak Hill played fearless and smart the whole night, never scoring less than 14 points in every quarter while holding Indianola to only 11 points in the second half on route to a 65-38 statement win for the 10-5 Raiders heading into the holiday break.

Thursday night, Oak Hill played their second contest against Indianola within a 10-day span. After a close contest between the Lady Raiders and Lady Colonels, this matchup on Oak Hill’s home court was expected to be another barn burner. The fans certainly did not go home disappointed after the Lady Raiders’ 34-31 defensive battle. In the lowest scoring game of the season thus far, Oak Hill showed its grit and toughness and secured the win through tenacious defense and adjusting to the slow pace of the game.

4-Star Recruit Justin Cox signs with Mississippi State

Wednesday was a hectic day for many football programs around the nation as Junior College [JUCO] players were putting pen to paper in the early signing period.
Justin Cox, an East Mississippi Defensive Back and former Green Wave star, walked into West Point's Athletic Department wearing a Mississippi State winter cap and a maroon jacket showing everyone where his loyalties were. Without any hesitation, Cox signed again with the Bulldogs and looked very please with his decision.

Oak Hill Junior High boys remain unbeaten since 2010

It’s been a long time since the Oak Hill Academy Junior High boys team has lost a game.
The impressive streak that was started during the 2010-2011 season has now stretched to 42 games, as the Raiders get ready to host Indianola Academy tomorrow night.
“They’re pretty good,” said Oak Hill head coach Brian Middleton emphatically on Tuesday afternoon. “They work really hard during the summer.”
It’s not just the summer drills that have contributed to this remarkable winning streak. It’s the dedication throughout the entire year that has led to this success.

Ask the All-Stars: Virges, Reed and Lane talk about upcoming Bernard Blackwell game

Though the high school football season has been over for a while, it is now time for the Bernard Blackwell All-Star game to be played this week. The Bernard Blackwell game features the North Mississippi All-Stars versus the South Mississippi All-Stars. The All-Star game is sponsored by the Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) and hosted on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The rosters for the North and the South are selected by member coaches of the MAC and were announced in the middle of October. The game will take place this Saturday December 22 and will be played at Gulfport High School.
