Sure Shots 4-H Club sending 7 to state competition

The Sure Shots 4-H Club has had a very busy year. In preparation for the Northeast Region Shooting Competition they participated in three qualifying events: The Golden Triangle Shooting Competition in Columbus, Alcorn County 4-H Shooting Competition in Glen, and the Pontotoc County 4-H Shotgun Competition in Pontotoc. Sure Shot members earned 18 first place medallions, 11 second place medallions, and three third place medallions from the competitions during the three competition span.

Any and every Mississippi State baseball fan was probably watching a television mid-afternoon Monday as the Bulldogs resumed their game against host Virginia leading the three-game series 1-0 and game two 5-3. I was glued to the television myself Sunday night, but forecasted rain made the avid Diamond Dawg fan have to wait a little longer for Omaha.

MSU claims Super Regional win

The Mississippi State Bulldogs left little doubt they are one of the best teams in the country this year, as they swept the #6 national seed University of Virginia Cavaliers 2 games to none on their own home turf in Charlottesville to advance to the 2013 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, next weekend. The trip to Omaha will be the ninth for the Bulldogs in school history, the first since 2007, and the first in the five year regime with Coach John Cohen at the helm.

Waverly hosts women’s golf tournament

Kathleen Gallagher, 16, of Greenwood dethroned two-time defending Mississippi Women’s Golf Association State Champion Ally McDonald, a Mississippi State University golfer and Fulton native, by one hole in match play Thursday afternoon at Old Waverly Golf Course to take the 2013 Women’s Golf Amateur crown. Kathleen is the daughter of Cissye Gallagher and former-PGA player Jim Gallagher Jr. Gallagher is currently a player at Pillow Academy in Greenwood.

Bulldogs win Starkville Regional – Headed to Charlottesville Super Regional to take on #6 Wahoos

The Diamond Dawgs struck early and often in the elimination Championship Game of the Starkville Regional Monday night, defeating the feisty Central Arkansas Bears by a score of 6-1 to claim the championship and advance to the Super Regionals. With the victory, the 9th ranked Bulldogs (46-18) will now advance to Charlottesville, Virginia, to face the #6 national seed University of Virginia Cavaliers (50-10).
