Oak Hill boys remain in contention for crown

The Oak Hill Raiders clinched a berth into the MAIS AA State Tournament next week after a Wednesday victory over the Central Hinds Cougars.
In the quarterfinals, the Raiders outplayed the Cougars and soundly defeated the district 3-AA tournament champions 65-24. Oak Hill used great performances from Drake Riley and John Wesley Williamson to help propel themselves to the state tournament berth.

Hebron eliminated from postseason

The Lady Eagles took on Sharkey-Issequena Academy in the opening round of the MAIS A North Central Tournament on the campus of Calhoun Academy.
Hebron Christian jumped out to an early 18-11 lead in the first half, but were outscored by Sharkey 15-3 in the second quarter giving the Lady Confederates a 26-21 advantage going into halftime. The Lady Eagles answered during the third quarter regaining the lead with three minutes left in the quarter and closed the third leading 33-32. Foul trouble hampered Hebron in the fourth quarter allowing Sharkey to pull away and defeat Hebron 59-40.

A classic at New Hope: Wave unable to survive Trojan rally

It only takes a second for a team to win or lose a game. This statement always seems to hold true especially during the postseason of basketball, a sport known for exciting finishes.
The West Point Green Wave entered into the district 2 5-A tournament after a 14-11 regular season and going 3-3 within region play. The five-hundred district record landed the Wave as the third-seed in the region tournament at New Hope and set a date with Lowndes County foe, the New Hope Trojans.

Lady Wave exit District 2 5-A early

The Lady Wave entered into the district 2 5-A tournament and were hoping to have good showing to start off the postseason. A four o’clock start time left a near empty gym at New Hope High School as the three-seeded West Point took on two-seeded Oxford.
The Lady Chargers are a veteran team which pulls leadership from Clarion-Ledger Dandy Dozen Alexus Malone. A young Lady Wave had struggled with Oxford in the previous two meetings and dropped both games.

Oak Hill Raiders one win away from state tourney

Head coach Brian Middleton and his group of young men set out on two goals at the beginning of the season; win twenty or more games and secondly to make the AA State Tournament.
Tonight, the Raiders will take on Central Hinds Academy in the second round of the AA North State tournament at Leake Academy in a game that could clinch a berth into the AA State Tournament and their twentieth win.

Pack the stands at New Hope: West Point hoops braces for the Trojans

West Point will have more than their hands full when they travel over to New Hope High School tonight.
The Green Wave, under the direction of head coach Brad Cox, will have to enter into enemy territory for opening round play of the district 2 5-A tournament. Not only will the gym be unfamiliar, but it is also the home gym of the New Hope Trojans, the Wave’s opening round opponent.

Hebron Eagles District 3-A runners-up

Hebron Christian came into the district 3-A tournament after a full week off from competition on the court. After accumulating a 7-1 record in district, the Eagles had earned the second seed for the district tournament and headed into Mathiston with a three-game varsity winning streak.
The second-seed matched Hebron with third-seed Calhoun Academy in the opening round Friday night. The Eagles had dominated the Cougars during the regular season picking up two wins over Calhoun in region play.

Lady Eagles take runner-up at 3A Tournament

The Lady Eagles began their postseason quest in Mathiston on the campus of Woods Institute this past Friday and Saturday. In the first step for a chance to make the MAIS Single-A State Tournament, Hebron Christian took on fellow district-mates in the district 3A Tournament.
Hebron could not have asked for a better time to start their postseason as the Lady Eagles were carrying a three-game varsity winning streak and playing some of their best basketball thus far in the season.

Lady Wave falls to Houston in early-week battle

The West Point Lady Wave basketball team traveled north on Tuesday night to take on the Houston Lady Hilltoppers in a non-district game. 
West Point was coming off a bruising district loss on Monday to the hands of the Lady Chargers of Oxford 62-20.
