Seasoned Oak Hill ready for 2013 baseball season

February 22, 2013

It is about that time of year again when you start to hear the pop of the ball hitting the glove, and the ping of the aluminum bat followed by the cheers for a long-driven home run ball. As you maybe could guess, it is time for the high school baseball season to get under way here in West Point.

Oak Hill Raiders eliminated from postseason

February 21, 2013

Oak Hill Academy qualified for the MAIS AA State Tournament with a win over North Delta School last week in Madden on the campus of Leake Academy. The Raiders were unable to further their seeding though after two losses to Leake and Canton Academy in the following days of the tournament. The losses placed Oak Hill into the fourth seed and gave them a date with the AA South State Champions Central Private School of Central, Louisiana.

Dewayne Jefferson comes full circle

February 20, 2013

Google search “Dewayne Jefferson”, and click the first link that you see on the list of sources containing the name. It should lead you to a Wikipedia profile which shows a short, brief paragraph about an American professional basketball player.
A West Point, Mississippi native Jefferson is well traveled. And even though the Wikipedia page does not fill in the blanks, I want to make those blanks disappear and fill them in with his story.
So you may be asking, who is Dewayne Jefferson?

Coaches say the darndest things

February 19, 2013

Recently, I ran across a quote from the current Biggersville basketball coach Cliff Little in a tweet from Southern Sentinel’s Kedrick Storey. Coach Little in reference to his upcoming opponent, Blue Mountain, said that they were “hungry…They’re like a man by a dumpster looking for a crumb.” Though some may see that as a slight at Blue Mountain or maybe even a negative remark about homelessness, Coach Little’s remark about Blue Mountain was the biggest compliment. Never would I want to be in an all-out brawl with someone who was that hungry.
