Demarius Calvert is an offensive threat for zone defenses as he is always finding open space and getting high-percentage baskets.
Against the Saltillo zone, Calvert scored a game-high 25 points and helped the Green Wave with his 12 points during the third quarter to secure a pull-away win over the Tigers, 88-62, in the District 2-5A opener Tuesday night in West Point.

COLUMBUS — The Shannon Red Raider supporters were verbal in the New Hope High School gymnasium. The fans urged their defense to prevent West Point’s “No. 2” from getting the basketball in his hands.
Shannon, though, had few answers for the Green Wave point guard, A.J. Jones, as the green and white’s floor general was the key cog in the final 16 minutes, leading West Point to a 72-56 win over the Red Raiders in the New Hope New Year Classic Saturday afternoon.

GRENADA – The number “13” has many negative connotations in any spectrum of life – Friday the 13th or the fear of the 13th floor/aisle, which many establishments avoid.
Oak Hill’s Drew Riley may have a different perspective on the number after three contests on the basketball court.
The sophomore guard has scored 13 points in the past three consecutive games, including his 13 for the Raiders in Friday evening’s 42-31 triumph over the North Delta Green Wave in the Kirk Academy Basketball Classic.

GRENADA – Stan Hughey expressed before the start of the 2013-14 season that his team needed to find a third or fourth double-digit scorer for his youthful Lady Raiders.
The Oak Hill Girls’ Head Coach may have just found a trio that can provide him with the needed numbers to be successful in the month of January and the tough stretch of District 2-AA games.
