Where do we go from here?

May 17, 2013

So many times we have gone to the polls on election day, and we have checked the name of a man or woman we want to represent us.
Many times, however, we do not think about the impact of that vote.
Whether it is the President of the United States, or a candidate for a local body, we check that name because we believe that person is fit to represent the people as a whole.

May 17, 2013

I was still a kid between second and third grade, June 17, 1972. This was when President Richard Millhouse Nixon sent a couple to guys to break into the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate office complex in Washington, D.C. I remember the press scrambling to report the cover-up after the infamous “Deep Throat” turned over the information that allowed the prosecution of G.

Pittman’s scheme an insult to the taxpayers

May 15, 2013

On Tuesday night, some members of the West Point Board of Selectmen crossed that fine line between utter incompetence and gross absurdity.
We’ve seen this board pull some in the past, but Tuesday night’s motion by Ward 5 Selectmen Jasper Pittman, which called for the city to retain an attorney who would be tasked with looking for improprieties in the May 7 election is not only absurd but in this editor’s opinion is an insult to the taxpayers of the community.

Summerall: Happy Mother’s Day

May 10, 2013

I just thought that all of us mom’s could use a little shout-out today.
We truly have the toughest job on earth. If you don’t think so, you’re either not a mother or you’re simply not very good at it.

Fuller will be missed

May 9, 2013

I would like to take a moment to thank Mrs. Wendy Fuller, our former Clay County Election Commissioner for all of the hard work and years she has put in with the county.
On Thursday morning, the Clay County Board of Supervisors voted to dismiss Fuller as an Election Commissioner. The vote was 3-2.
The board had a tough job to do, and they did it the best way that it could have been handled.
The circumstances surrounding Fuller’s dismissal should not blemish her overall record of service to the citizens of Clay County.
