Summerall: Reality is relative

With the marvelous insanity brought on by reality television, (I personally think the phrase is an oxymoron) it was bound to open the field to the eccentric among us. From people who spend 40 days in a remote location trying to survive on rice, coconuts and whatever food they can win in challenges. (I’m sorry. This is not surviving, this is The Price is Right.) Or racing around the world jumping out of airplanes and eating a plateful of squid that is not only still moving but looking at you. None of this resembles reality.

Pilot helps special needs children

The West Point Pilot Club recently presented a check to the CCARC to help purchase classroom supplies for the special needs children served by them. “Gun Control” will not solve all violence

Birthdays are supposed to be joyous occasions for most, marking another milestone in one’s life---a celebration with one’s family and friends for making it to see another year---and are often accompanied with good memories of the past----past birthday parties, past presents, past milestones and accomplishments, etc…. Not all have fond memories of their birthday, however, as they reflect on past failures or look at another year as just growing older with no hope it seems.

I read a great quote by Maya Angelou recently, “Because of our routines, we forget that life is an ongoing adventure”. This made me think of one of the most used complaints of all (in a whiny voice), “but I don’t have enough time.........”
The truth is that we control where our time goes. Time is a gift that we so often take for granted. We get caught up in the “busyness of our routines” that we rarely stop to take a look at where we are spending (wasting) this precious gift.

Old Waverly golf instructor giving kids lessons for life

When VJ Trolio first met Jonathan Randolph when the now professional golfer was 14 years old, he saw the natural talent Randolph possessed.
He also saw Randolph make common mistakes and face the same adversities all young people eventually face.
Like countless others who have been instructed by Trolio, the game taught Randolph about life and how to achieve the goals he set for himself.

There will be a very important community training seminar in Starkville one week from today.
Attendance from West Point’s community leaders could lead to a significant impact on poverty and the town’s economy.
“Bridges out of Poverty” is an organization that has taught communities that benefits and effectiveness of empowering those in poverty rather than just writing checks to different charities.
Lynn Phillips-Gaines spoke to the West Point Rotary Club last week about the “Bridges” program and the impact it has had on Starkville.

Jeanette Unger was in charge of the Wednesday’s program at the West Point Civitan Luncheon Club. February is Clergy Month for the Civitan Clubs. She presented Rev. Steve Davis, pastor of 1st Presbyterian Church FPC., and his wife Sharon.
“I had a completely different idea of what to talk about when I got here today but the Civitan Creed made me rethink what I wanted to say,” explained Davis. “Sometimes we just need to be willing to go in the direction we are led. You are one of the few groups who I feel truly are led by the idea of Christian love and service.”

The Girl Scouts of Heart of the South have received their cookies and are ready to deliver to those who placed their orders. Samantha White’s Brownie Troop No. 23156, sold 1,059 boxes of cookies during the 2013 campaign. The Girl Scouts will be at the West Point Walmart Supercenter, Saturday, February 23, with cookies for sale in case anyone didn’t get the opportunity to pre-order their cookies.
