The first six Diamond Raider batters were set down on Monday afternoon, as Oak hill (12-8; 3-3) battled for a playoff spot against conference rival Winston. They eventually battled back to win 6-1.
“They’ve got a little confidence and a little stagger about them,” said Oak Hill head coach Marion Bratton about his girls. “I’m tickled to death with that.”
After the first two innings went by without a whimper from the Lady Raiders, Winston paid for it in the third.
The Hebron Christian Diamond Eagles (16-9; 5-0) were 2-1 overall, counting their 3-0 conference win over Winona on Thursday and a split in the Carroll Academy Tourney this weekend. They got a win over Magnolia Heights, but Jackson Prep was too much for Hebron, finally defeating them 3-1.
Things got off to a good start, as the Lady Eagles rounded off the week at Winona.
Tonight, the West Point Parks and Recreation Department will be holding its coaches meeting for the upcoming soccer season.
The Parks Director, James Crowley, is calling on anyone who is interested in volunteering to be coach this Fall to attend tonight’s meeting.
Last week, Parks Assistant Director Jarod McDaniel put the call out to the community.
“We definitely need soccer coaches,” McDaniel said. Anyone who has a kid playing is encouraged to come out and coach. Even if you don’t have a kid playing, and you just want to come out and help the kids, join us.”
Last Saturday, the 2010 Mossy Oak 5k run jumped off the West Point Prairie Arts Festival. The 8 a.m. start was a good one for the winners of the race.

For the last two weeks, the Diamond Eagles of Hebron Christian School (14-8; 4-0) have been cutting it close, playing nothing but one-run games. They have won some, and they have lost some.
What they needed on Tuesday night was a little breathing room for starter Chloe Tapley, who had to pitch eight innings her last time out. She did strikeout a season high 17 batters in last Thursday’s extra-inning win over Kemper Academy.
The West Point Parks and Recreation Department is in need of volunteers to coach soccer this Fall.
As the season cools down, football and soccer will heat up, and right now there is a shortage of soccer coaches in a league that is steadily growing.
“We definitely need some soccer coaches,” said recreation department assistant director Jarod McDaniel. “Anyone who has a kid playing is encouraged to come out and coach. Even if you don’t have a kid playing and you just want to come out and help the kids, join us.”
After falling at home in their first two ball games, the Oak Hill Academy Raiders (0-3) were hoping that they could find some magic on the road against Indianola last Friday night.
Unfortunately for the Raiders, whatever magic they had, they left here in West Point before making the trip.
Indianola gave Oak Hill its worst beating to date, with a 25-0 defeat of the Raiders.
It was a tough night to say the least, but it certainly does not spell the end of things for the Raiders, who still pack a lot of talent, coming into this week’s contest at Leake.
